Timeline

Sometime in 2001:  Peace Corps Volunteers serving in Kenya come to my middle School to discuss what they were doing and the importance of volunteering.  The seed is planted.

Aug. 8, 2008: Really began considering applying.  Extensive research
begins.

March 05, 2011: Began the application process after a lot of research.  Finally sure that I truly wanted to join the Peace Corps.

May 23, 2011: Had my in-person interview with a regional recruiter. I wore a business formal suit, and thought the office was really cool.  I especially loved how an entire wall in the office had a giant world map on it, and it had pictures where current Peace Corps Volunteers were serving.  My interview went really well.

June 1, 2011: I received a call from the Peace Corps headquarters in Washington D.C.  I was officially nominated to become a Peace Corps Volunteer!

June 6, 2011: Received my nomination letter to go to Sub-Saharan Africa for Community Services, the tentative departure date was given as June 2012.

June 10, 2011: My Peace Corps Toolkit is updated with the following message: “Peace Corps mailed you a Medical Kit on June 10, 2011. Be sure to schedule your medical appointments immediately so you can submit your medical forms as soon as possible. TIP: Some medical forms, reimbursement forms, and samples of correctly completed forms are available in the Download Center.

October 26, 2011: My Peace Corps Toolkit is updated with the following message: “Peace Corps received the results of your physical exam on October 26, 2011. If the program you are nominated for is not scheduled to leave in the next 4 months you may not hear from Medical until the time of departure is closer. Currently those programs scheduled to leave in the next 4 months are being reviewed. For applicants leaving within 4 months Peace Corps may request additional medical information. Please respond quickly to these requests.

May 31, 2012: Medical Clearance! My Peace Corps Toolkit is updated with the following message:  “Complete. A decision has been reached regarding your medical review. Please look for a letter in the mail.

June 7, 2012Dental Clearance! My Peace Corps Toolkit is updated with the following message:  “Complete. Peace Corps has completed your dental review. There are no dental holds on your account at this time.

June 20, 2012: My Placement Officer introduces herself to me and requests copies of my updated Resume and Transcripts.

June 22, 2012 (10:00am): I send her everything she requested

June 22, 2012 (10:10am): I receive an email from my Placement Officer thanking me for the documents I sent her and my diligence in procuring them!  She then asked me to complete the attached questionnaire.

June 22, 2012 (8:30pm): Questionnaire sent!

June 25, 2012:  Called my Placement Officer 20minutes after the office opened to ask if she received my questionnaire and to find out what happens next.  She told me that I should be receiving a call from her colleague, a Doctor Fiz-(something?) to discuss my answers in the questionnaire…

June 26, 2012 (10:29am): (Exactly one week after my 21st Birthday) Dr. Fritz Morrison calls me and officially invites me to join the Peace Corps.  He tells me to brush up on my French skills as I’ll be serving in sub-Saharan Africa, working in girls education and empowerment.  I’m so excited!!!
